Memories Through Lived Experiences

My interest in printmaking began in middle school, where I was first introduced to the medium and immediately captivated by its versatility and expressive possibilities. What initially drew me in was the physical process of creating prints, but over time I became increasingly fascinated by the way printmaking allows for experimentation, layering, repetition, and transformation. What continues to inspire me today is the expansive range of techniques within the medium, each carrying its own visual language and unique way of communicating emotion and narrative. Printmaking has become a space where I can freely explore ideas while balancing both structure and unpredictability.

I approach my work as both a personal journey and a form of storytelling, with each piece reflecting aspects of my identity, memories, and the experiences that continue to shape me. Much of my work is rooted in personal symbolism and metaphor, allowing everyday objects and imagery to carry emotional meaning. Themes such as the beach, home, fashion, family, and nostalgia frequently emerge throughout my prints, grounding my practice in both memory and lived experience. These themes often stem from moments that feel deeply familiar to me, childhood summers, collected objects, personal relationships, and spaces tied to comfort and identity. The oyster, for example, has become a fitting symbol within my work, not only because shells often appear in my imagery, but also because I embrace the phrase “the world is my oyster,” representing possibility, growth, and exploration.

My practice spans a variety of mediums and techniques, including gelli printing, acrylic painting, plexiglass etching, drawing, textile integration, and digital work through Adobe programs. Depending on the body of work I am creating, my style may shift between expressive, abstract, experimental, and realistic approaches. I enjoy allowing each collection to develop organically, adapting my process and materials to best communicate the feeling or concept behind the work. This flexibility allows me to continuously evolve my visual language while remaining rooted in themes that feel deeply personal and authentic.

A strong influence throughout my work is the relationship between memory and emotion. I am interested in how memories can feel fragmented, layered, distorted, or dreamlike over time, and I often try to reflect those qualities visually through texture, repetition, color, and composition. Some pieces embrace movement and chaos, while others evoke stillness and peace. This emotional duality mirrors the complexities of identity, growth, and human experience, acknowledging that beauty and tension often exist simultaneously.

Ultimately, my work functions as both an intimate reflection of my own experiences and a space where viewers can find connection within their own memories and emotions. By combining personal symbolism with layered visual narratives, I aim to create work that feels immersive, emotionally resonant, and open to individual interpretation.
